End of May Random Thoughts

Dear Friend,
It's that time again! Time for a random list entry here at Dear Friend! Isn't that exciting? Random thoughts commence in 3... 2... 1....

1. I bought a ukulele, and boy is she fun! I can play Yellow Submarine, though I can't really sing it.

2. Speaking of Yellow Submarine, I'm in a Beatles mood/mania the past few days.  I blame Beatles Rock Band, because it's loads of fun and the music is great.

3. I can't pinpoint why, but I anticipate being in an Elvis mood/mania next.  I don't know much about Elvis, and have seen a grand total of 1 movie that he's been in, but I'm getting interested.

4. Jem is now playing weekdays on the HUB network.  It couldn't be more 80's in it's "outrageous" music, fashions, and to be honest, stupidity.  I love it.

5. I'm glad to know that the next season of Chuck will be the final. The last two seasons were all right, but I don't like it as much as I did when it first started.

6. Psych will not be on this summer, since it's been delayed to the fall season. I don't think summer will feel like summer without Psych.

7. Eagerly awaiting the new season of Leverage. I don't remember if I wrote about it here in my blog, but last year I was scary obsessed with that show.  It is such fun to watch.

8. Even numbered random thoughts are better than odd numbered, don't you think?

Random song lyrics, for a reason

Dear Friend,
Here's a few lyrics that ring true to me lately. Enjoy.

I'm finally catching onto it
Yeah the past is just a conduit
And the light there at the end is where I'll be.
- Up and Up, Relient K (It's a journey)

Isn't it nice to know
That the lining is silver
Isn't it nice to know
That we're golden.
- The Lining is Silver, Relient K (Eternal optimist, that's what I am)

I know who I am
I am Yours
And Jesus you are mine!
- I Know Who I Am, Israel and New Breed (Need I say more?)

Listen to the music of the moment
Dance and sing
We're just one big family
And it's our God intended right to be loved
- I'm Yours, Jason Mraz (sometimes Mr.AZ gets it right)

As you push it up through the soil I'll shake your filthy hand
You may be dead to me but that don't mean we can't be friends
- Fallen Man, Relient K (slightly macabre, but I get it)

Life is Good
Eternal life is better
- Life is Good, Stellar Kart (simple, and to the point)

I'm in repair
I'm not together
But I'm getting there
- In Repair, John Mayer (love that dude's lyrics)

No it won't all go the way it should
But I know the heart of life is good.
- Heart of Life, John Mayer (there's that optimist streak again)

I want to start it over
I want to start again
I want a new beginning
One without and end.
- Something Beautiful, Newsboys (One of my favorite songs)

That's enough for tonight. *Mmwah!* Goodnight everybody! (and that is the influence of too much Animaniacs, gotta love Yakko)

Cliffs are for climbing. That's why God gave us grappling hooks

Dear Friend,
Tomorrow, if I play my cards right, could be my last day of work at the school. I've been thinking over what I'd like to do in the short amount of time that I plan on being between jobs. I have more hopes than time (I assume, since I don't actually know when my "break" will be over) but I like listing things. Here are a few things I'd like to accomplish this summer.

1. Pick up piano again
2. Learn to play guitar
3. Finish unpacking those boxes of stuff that belongs in my room.
4. Paint the ugly trim in my room
5. Learn to make amigurumi dolls
6. Make a felt "Much" doll, maybe
7. Make custom pillows for the daybed
8. Make a pineapple upside down cake
9. Acquire a few t-shirts and then make them into new, cool things
10. Try painting with watercolors
11. Make some clothes
12. Make it out to the new C28 store
13. Eat at the new Noodles n' Company restaurant near here
14. Lose a few inches around my tummy (can't think in lbs. since I don't know what I weigh
15. Cut a fringe (or bangs for people here in the US)
16. Read Frankenstein
17. Read Persuasion
18. Beat Mario Kart Wii
19. Acquire every character in Super Smash Bros. Brawl
20. Illustrate that book by my Dad's co-worker
21. Rearrange my cork board
22. Go to the Smithsonian
23. Decorate cake with Fondant
24. Re-watch the entire (so far) series of LOST
25. Go to Colorado for a visit (maybe)

I'll stop at 25 things, but I'm sure if I sat here and thought for long enough I'd come up with quite a few more.
Hoping that your summer is filled with relaxing and energizing plans!

Changes

Dear Friend,
How do you like the new banner? I got it from "crazy_in_lost" at livejournal. Nice, eh? I've got something of a James McAvoy interest lately, if you can't tell.
Tomorrow is my first day with students at my new job. I'm half looking forward to it, and half dreading it. I need to learn a lot, more than I actually have learned already to be honest. I'm glad I'm only the assistant and not the teacher.
Now, in an attempt to dissuade the nerves I'm writing a silly, silly blog entry. Boys who don't want to read my raving about guys I find cute need not read any further. I suppose that could apply to girls who have no interest in my opinion on guys don't need to read anymore, either. *shrug*

List of my current "Media Boyfriends"
The great part about media boyfriends is that since none of them know you, they don't care that they're not the only one.
James McAvoy
No surprise there, eh? He's only all over this blog at the moment. I loved him as Mr. Tumnus, fake ears and nose and goat legs aside. Frankly while watching Becoming Jane I didn't care much. But now I'm rather smitten.

Richard Armitage
North and South did me in. John Thornton is almost better than Mr. Darcy. As Guy of Gisbourne he isn't likable, but interesting, besides he's still attractive. Search YouTube for his bedtime stories on CeeBeeBies, they're awesome and adorable. That and his 2 episodes of Vicar Of Dibley could potentially "smite" anybody.

James Roday and Dule Hill
Psych is just awesome and I wound up thinking both these guys were cute mainly because they make me laugh. Honorary mention to, even I can't believe it, Tim Omundsun. Humor is quite attractive.

And now the weirdest one of all: ca. 1983 Peter Davison
He's Tristan on All Creatures Great and Small. He's Campion. He was Dr. Who (though I've never seen that). He's not at all my type and old enough to be my father (actually, he's 5 years older than my father, but like I said, I like him in the 80's)! Yet, once again, I'm smitten.

That's enough for now, maybe I'll do another of these in a few months. Or not.

Pineapple

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket
Great moments of the day:

B plus grade in Big Brain Academy for the Wii.

Good round of Tiger Challenge in the Tiger Woods golf game for Wii.

Discovery of an "Anne of Windy Willows" copy of L. M. Montgomery's book usually title "Anne of Windy Poplars" in a used book store.

Managing to get my parakeet to sit on my finger three times in his finger training.

Unexpected, yet delicious, serving of mashed potatoes (my personal comfort food.)

"One More Round" song preview on the BarlowGirl site. (Best song on the new CD that's out tomorrow)

Being able to see the flashback of Friday's Psych, that I had previously missed.

Mandarin Oranges.

Fox sighting in the yard.

New episode of Spongebob.

Still pro at Wii Sports bowling.

And the best moment of all: Seeing two spotted fawns and the mommy doe in the yard just a few feet away from our kitchen window. *Squee* the cuteness!

This list was in no particular order until the final entry

Even conservative me could get kicked out of college!

So, I came across the online posting of campus rules for this (freaky) college down in Florida. I'll refrain from naming this place, but I was just amazed that even I, the goody-two-shoes girl, have the potential to be expelled from a college. I'll just list the rules that would get me in "trouble"

"Women must wear a skirt or dress at all times. Jean skirts are allowed at dating outings only. Long shorts (i.e., "gauchos" or "culottes") which reach the knee are permitted for athletic activity."

Say wha? I refuse to wear a dress at all times. And then, to tell me that I can't wear my jean skirt (which I happen to have on today) is just sick and wrong! It's my favorite skirt!

"Women must wear nylons ("hose") with skirts, but may wear socks with shorts."

I haven't worn nylons in Months! And I've never worn socks with shorts, always sandals. Would these people be offended by the sight of my toes or what?

"You may not wear pants in your dorm, although sweats ARE permitted after prayer group."

Get real.

"No two-piece swimming suits (although, this is a bit irrelevant since a male should never see you swimming)."

So I guess my "tankini" two-peice is out, even though you can't see any of my midsection and it actually covers more of my body than a normal suit. Also, apparently these people are the kind who think "mixed bathing" will send you straight to hell!!!!!!11 (Oh no, I said hell, that's probably against the rules, too!)

"No backless shoes or dresses."

I have more backless shoes than normal ones, dude. No way I'm giving them up. Especially in Florida.

"It should be noted that at any time, the administration (or students authorized by the administration) may go through your room, unannounced, looking for anything unauthorized. Legally or not, this will include opening drawers and going through paperwork. You may or may not be present, and you may or may not be notified."

Um... not only no...

"If you are still in bed you may receive demerits for not having your bed made (although it is acceptable to make your bed, go back to sleep on top of the made bed while your floorleader is checking room jobs, and then crawl back under the covers after the floorleader exits the room. However, you must wait until the floorleader crosses the threshold before actually beginning to "crawl" back under the covers)."
I haven't made my bed first thing in the morning for weeks. Also, note that you can't swim with the opposite sex, but loopholes are perfectly acceptable! Good old "works" mentality (did someone think about this before writing it?)

"After bed-time ("lights out:" 11:00 every day, including weekends) you may receive demerits for talking, taking your contacts out, having your feet on the floor (or possibly suspended a few inches from the floor), being in the bathroom, or basically doing anything but lying in bed."

Whoa. I haven't been in bed before 11 in a really long time. Let alone having the lights out by 11. (suspended above the floor, that's a hoot)

"You may not have: television, personal stereo (walkman), microwave, fans, skillets, hot plate, coffee pot, electric blanket, extra furniture, or a living pet (also presumably includes a "dead" pet - not clear whether this includes pet rocks or plants) of any kind."

I'm so kicked out of this school. (Like I'd ever want to go there!) But seriously, who is using an electric blanket in Florida?!?!)

"You may not sing "too loud" during prayer group."

This wouldn't get me kicked out, I just can't believe it's really a rule.

"You may not go bare-foot in the halls or lounge."

But, barefoot is the way to be.

"You may not go to Cordova Mall after 5:00 p.m."

I know nothing of Cordova Mall, but this is just insane. So are all the other places that they tell their students are off-limits.

"There are a myriad of restaurants the students are not allowed to go to, although faculty and staff frequent them (more specifics on campus)."

Oh, so they're a "Do as I say, not as I do" sort of place. Hypocrites.

"Freshmen/Sophomore women must leave campus in groups of three or more. Junior/Senior women, in groups of 2."

*Sigh*

"You may not go to a public library"

Again, Not only no... Are they crazy? There is no keeping me from a public library. And just what sort of evil is at a library? And who's going to know I'm there?

"Women are not allowed to hold off campus jobs. (All school jobs during the year pay minimum wage or below)"

Double standard time! Why can't women get a job that pays them more than minimum wage? Because it's off-campus! I cannot believe that anyone would subject themselves to such crap. That's exactly what it is, too, utter crap.

"The BMG or Columbia House music club catalogs are not allowed
Music is limited to classical, hymns, accepted "new age" and instrumental, and that distinctive "PCC sound."
No "paraphenelia" (posters, books, stickers, etc) associated with "non-passing" media is allowed in your dorm, on your person, or in your car.
You may recieve demerits for having your radio tuned to a "non-passing" radio station, even if you have not touched the dial since you were home."

(Oops, I guess I just gave the college away, oh well, now you've been warned) As someone who rarely listens to hymns (I think I have one CD that is specifically hymns, it's by Out of Eden, and really good) and who happens to love certain "secular" music and enjoys Radio Disney (yes, I'm 22 and I listen to Radio Disney) I couldn't stand for any of these restrictions. Ever!

"No student is allowed to talk or otherwise interact with another student of the opposite sex outside of a "chaperoned" area. It does not matter if they are alone or among hundreds of students if it is not an "official" chaperoned area."

I can't talk to the boys? Most of my friends are boys! Boys are (or at least tend to be) more interesting than girls! Don't take my boys from me!!!

"There is to be no physical contact between students of the opposite sex, except perhaps on some "dating outings," where hand-holding games are played.
The official rule on "indirect contact" is unknown. It is much talked about, but unevenly enforced. This includes such things as tugging on a coat, poking with a pencil, etc."

Mean, just mean. (Of course, I don't touch people all that much anyway.)

"Siblings of the opposite sex should not interact in unchaperoned areas to abstain from the "appearance of evil."'

Can't even talk to my own brother. *shakes head*

"There is to be NO. . .
Eating food purchased off-campus in a public area
Borrowing
Playing of instruments (of any kind) in your room, or outside. The only place to play on campus is in the practice rooms.
Possession of an electric guitar or amplifier
Horseplay. This is completely subjective and can be for anything from loudness to throwing a pillow.
"Indirect Horseplay." This appears to be watching "horseplay" from a distance without doing anything to stop it/being entertained by it.
Gambling (or possession of standard playing cards).
Attendance at a movie theater or unapproved concert/event."

Good heavens! If I were forced to go to this school, I would be guilty of all of these! (Ok, so I don't have an electric guitar yet, but I would run out and buy one with these ridiculous rules hanging over my head)

"No Lying or any form of deception (widely interpreted and applicable only to students)."

What? The teachers can lie?

I think that's it. But good golly. It's more than enough.

Christian Pick-up Lines

It's a little frightening, but I could imagine a couple of my guy friends saying these.

Christian Pick-up Lines:
1) Nice bible.
2) I would like to pray with you.
3) You know Jesus? Me too.
4) God told me to come talk to you.
5) I know a church where we could go and talk.
6) How about a hug, sister?
7) Do you need help carrying your bible? It looks heavy.
8) Christians don't shake hands, Christians gotta hug.
9) Oh you are cold, Ecclesiastes 4:11
10) Did it hurt when you fell from Heaven?
11) What are your plans for tonight? Feel like a bible study?
12) I am here for you.
13) The word says "Give drink to those who are thirsty, and feed the hungry," how about dinner?
14) You don't have an accountability partner? Me neither.
15) Do you want to come over and watch the Ten Commandments tonight?
16) Is it a sin that you stole my heart?
17) Would you happen to know a Christian woman (man) that I could love with all my heart and wait on hand and foot?
18) Nice bracelet. What would Jesus date? I mean "do."
19) Do you believe in Divine appointment?
20) Have you ever tried praying at a drive-in movie before?
21) Excuse me, I believe one of your ribs belongs to me.
22) My friend told me to come and meet you, he said that you are a really nice person. I think you know him. Jesus, yeah, that's his name.
23) You know they say that you have never really dated, until you have dated a Christian.
24) Yeah I predicted David over Goliath.

4) God told me to come talk to you.
Eh, that would possibly freak me out.

10) Did it hurt when you fell from Heaven?
Someone said that to my once, but it was a joke.

13) The word says "Give drink to those who are thirsty, and feed the hungry," how about dinner?
That would get creativity points from me.

16) Is it a sin that you stole my heart?
Groan-worthy.

I don't fall for lines, but if they're that popular, someone must. *shrug*

Till next I write!

Soundtrack of my life

I figure it's not fair for movies and TV shows to have soundtracks when normal people don't. I used to pick songs as my theme song, but now, I've decided to use them all in a list that encompasses different aspects of me and my life.

1. "Let Everything that Has Breath" I prefer Jeremy Camp's version. I'd start with this song to show that God comes first in my life, and I always want to start by praising Him. Sure, sometimes I forget to, I'm still learning. "Praise you when I'm laughing/ Praise you when I'm greiving/Praise you every season of the soul". I praise Him no matter what I'm going through. It's the only way I can get through life.
2. "A Love that will Last" Renee Olstead. Man, do I love this song. It fits me in the sense that I don't want a "complicated past". I don't want to got through a bunch of relationships and come away from each with baggage. (Not that I've had any opporunity to do so, but still) "Don't kiss and hug me/ and then try to run" "I don't want just a memory/ Give me forever/ Don't even think about saying goodbye/ 'Cause I just want one love/ To be enough/ And remain in my heart till I die." Clear enough for you?
3. "Love Song for No One" John Mayer. Well, kind of self-explanatory, there. I'm not in a relationship right now. Actually never have been. "I'm tired of being alone/ So hurry up and get here." Sort of my impatient side, you know. LOL
4. "Love, Peace and Happiness" Out of Eden. Everything I have, God gave me. "You've given me love peace and happiness/ Life and I know I'm blessed/ All that I need and yes/ Lord with everything you've done for me/ Most thankful 'cause you've given me You."
5. "Feelin' the Same Way" Norah Jones. Sometimes you just get in this mood that doesn't seem to go away, not good, not bad, just a little off. "Feelin' the same way all over again/ No matter how much I pretend".
6. "What Am I to You" Norah Jones. Well, anytime I have a crush on someone I just want to know what they think of me. Pretty easy to understand.
7. "All at Sea"Jamie Cullum. Harder to explain. It's one of my "voluntary isolation" songs. "I'm all at sea/ Where no one can bother me"... "Please just leave me right here on my own/ Later on you can spend some time with me/ If you want to/ All at sea." Sort of about not being in a relaionship again. (And no, I don't usually dwell on that fact so often.)
8. "Ain't Misbehavin'" Peter Cincotti's version. Actually on this song I like to change it to "Ain't misbehavin'/ Savin' my love for... who?" LOL
9. "Following You" Jadon Lavik. I bought Jadon's CD for this and a couple other songs. If I'd known better, I'd have just bought the individual songs. Still this is good. "This world has so much clarity/ With you walkin' right in front of me." Just about following God's plan for your life. Something I've been working on lately. Being able to do it with "All my heart/ All my mind/ And all my soul."
10. "On the Moon" Peter Cinotti. Actually, this has nothing to do with my life. At all. I just love this song. Acutally, most songs like this one make me very sarcastic, but I just adore this one beyond reason. "On the Moon/ That's where you'll find me soon/ I'll be alone again/ Well that's ok I must be on my own again/ I'll be waiting on the moon/ For you." Another "voluntary isolation" thing. I suppose I'm guilty of cutting myself off from people at times.
11. "Enough" Jeremy Camp. God certainly is more than enough for me.
12. " Walk by Faith" Jeremy Camp. Perfect. You just have to listen to understand, and I'm not about to type out the whole song here for you, just listen to it. "Help me to rid my endless fears/ You've been so faithful for all my years."
13. "Nothing but the Blood" Jadon Lavik. Another song I bought the CD for. Beautiful rendition.

I know there are more songs I'd put on my soundtrack, but I'll have to do a "Vol. 2" some other day I think. Thanks for reading!
